1. Food and dining out
According to a Pew Research poll, 25% of Americans say they spend too much money on food and dining out. In comparison, 17% say they spend too much money on entertainment and recreation, and 15% say they spend too much money on shopping and personal items. Interestingly, although food and dining out was considered the biggest splurge, the area in which most Americans would most cut back their spending is entertainment and recreation.
